We attended the grand opening of THRōW Social™ and Kick Axe Throwing® DC, two places that should provide much future entertainment in Ivy City. I was digging the curling options upstairs (five curling sheets available). There is no ice of course, but it will make for a fun night out sliding the stones. Upstairs is THRōW Social, which has a Miami theme, and across the way is FootBowl (throwing footballs at bowling pins), or try renting a cabana and sip some fruity drinks. Kick Axe is downstairs, and looks like a ski lodge from Aspen, where they have 14 axe throwing ranges to practice your technique. It’s also a nice spot to hang out by a fireplace with a hot toddy. The price might make both places more of a once-in-awhile activity, but a good one.
Your DC Defenders beat the Seattle Dragons, 31-19 on Saturday, February 8th. I was there, and the atmosphere was electric, just over 17,000 new fans. I’m also a season ticket holder, so let’s see how the rest of this XFL season plays out. (It’s only 5 home games.) Next game is February 15th at 2pm vs. New York Guardians. (Tickets)

I walked up Barracks Row (8th St. SE) the other day (after a couple months away), and was struck by all the empty storefronts. It sucks how many places have closed in the past year or so.
