The 9:30 Club is about to get a whole lot cooler, as Silversun Pickups perform on March 8th!

Silversun Pickups will bring their alternative rock and shoegaze sounds to bear on DC, as they tour for their fifth album, 2019’s Widow’s Weeds (via New Machine Recordings). The level of emotion you might experience from the album fluctuates between confidence and mourning (the lyrics speak to our current times).

The first single, “It Doesn’t Matter Why”, is a polished earworm, with lyrics like, ‘you think about us all the time’ and ‘and it doesn’t matter why we’re known, we’re just known’.

And they are indeed. They’ve been around since the early ’00’s, and it matters to note they are known from the first brilliant album, Carnavas.

Another new song, “Don’t Know Yet”, employs an array of electric pulses and beats, seemingly striving for ballad status, until it kicks in and up with their classic style guitar riffs.

You also have the chill, moody “Freakazoid”, about dealing with the paranoia of a loved one.

Silversun Pickups is from Los Angeles, and is comprised of Brian Aubert (vocals, guitar), Nikki Monninger (bass, vocals), Chris Guaniao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards).

I recommend you give them your full attention for this live show, especially if you haven’t yet somehow. I’ve now witnessed four of their live performances, including twice at Firefly Music Festival and a great show a few years ago, also at 9:30 Club. Find our review of that 2017 show.

Get your tickets here.

Tickets are $45. Doors open at the 9:30 Club at 7pm. Opener is The New Regime.
