51 Murals for DC Statehood

51 murals for DC statehood found around the city. Collect them all.

The House of Representatives voted 232-180 to pass H.R.51, the first time a bill has been approved by a chamber of Congress to grant DC statehood. It still needs to go through the Senate.

Prior to the vote, Mayor Bowser commissioned a series of 51 murals around the city to celebrate through art the themes of statehood, Black history, and social justice.

I don’t know if they are all painted yet, but let’s collect them all.

Other clues:

1. WAMU posted that 1725 West Virginia Ave NE had murals, but none were found there.

2. There is a statehood mural near Potomac Ave Metro (SE), but was painted in 2019 and doesn’t have the #muralsDC51 hashtag (even retroactively).

3. Deanwood Rec Center only had one mural, meaning Ward 7 only has one in total, which is odd compared to the other seven Wards.

4. I have not seen any additional photos on social media that are not accounted for in the above 49. Maybe they were not painted yet.

    1. Thanks. I went to those too, but I wasn’t sure because they weren’t murals. But I think they might be part of this actually.

      1. I added a photo of those 8 photos on the Howard Theatre, thanks for having me doublecheck!
