It’s country music time!

Mary Chapin Carpenter will come close to DC at The Birchmere (in Alexandria) for two (sold out) nights of county music.

Mary just released Sometimes Just The Sky, which celebrates her 30 year career. The album includes a re-imagined song from all of her previous albums, plus the new self-titled track, a hauntingly beautiful, violin (fiddle) heavy look at longing for something not attained.

Another single “Heroes and Heroines”, re-imaged from her 1987 album, Hometown Girl, is a meandering journey that contrasts from the original spare arrangement to the newer, richer version that benefits from time and experience.

Full disclosure, there was a season of my life where I regularly had the radio tuned to the country music of the day (1994-1998ish). Mary Chapin Carpenter’s biggest hits still ring in my head, like “Passionate Kisses” and “Down at the Twist and Shout”. I haven’t kept up with her latest work, but now the opportunity presents itself to get back in the swing, so let’s seize it.

Get your tickets on the resale sites! Both nights are Sold Out!

Tickets are $89.50. Show at The Birchmere starts at 7:30pm. Opener is Laura Cortese & The Dance Cards.
