Songs to get you through the pandemic.

Note: Boost Your Playlist is for songs either from local DC bands, or from artists that recently performed or ‘should’ be performing live in DC at some point this year.

DC’s finest brass and funk band, Black Masala, released a new single on Monday of last week, and you should check it out.

Afterglow” is a powerful, emphatic electropop dance track, that will put your social distancing skills to the test.

Live mainstays at many local concert venues in recent years, Black Masala draws from multiple influences, like Balkan brass, New Orleans funk and Gypsy punk Bhangra.

Afterglow” is brimming with danceable synth beats and heavy with horns. It’s fun, upbeat and the lyrics of love give vocalist, Kristen Long, a chance to shine. They all shine with this song, a needed distraction. The band is robust, with eight current members.

You won’t sit still.
