Some cool things, but also a few that suck.

Big Deals

Solid State Books has finally opened their main store on H Street NE. Nice looking space with a small cafe. Verified open. (Website)

Wayne Rooney to D.C. United! Maybe we now have a shot to get out of the MLS Eastern Conference cellar.

Speaking of the D.C. United, their brand spanking new digs, Audi Field, opens on July 14th! So excited. They play against the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, and some tickets are still available. (Tickets)

O-Ku, the Japanese restaurant near Union Market has opened! Holy cow, it also has a beautiful roof deck. (DC Eater)

Red Ginger, a Caribbean restaurant is taking over the Shwafel space on H Street. (The Hill is Home)

I love Mexican food, so it’s exciting to see Mission coming to Navy Yard. Opening on July 14th it is right across from Nationals Park on N Street SE. It also has a 150-foot bar and two floors! (DC Eater)

A Guinness Brewery is opening in Maryland! The Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House will have over 90 taps. Legit. It opens in early August. (DC Eater)

Ledo Pizza on H Street NE is now open. (Menu)

A couple new restaurants are opening near Union Market this summer, with Adam Greenberg’s Coconut Club (think jerk chicken) and Stephen Starr’s St. Anselm (a steakhouse from the restaurateur that brought you Le Diplomate). A lot is happening over near Union Market, get ready for the fun! (DCist)

Also, you can check out the Union Market Drive-in Movie tonight (July 6th), with Like Water for Chocolate. (Full Schedule)

Your DC Breeze still have a shot at the playoffs! They have to win their next game against New York on July 14th. (Tickets)

Bummers

The heat is palpable and gross. Thankfully today cooled off a bit, but some cities around the world experienced their hottest temperatures on record on July 3rd and 4th. (Washington Post)

Wayne Rooney to D.C. United. I am not a fan of Manchester United (let’s say active dislike), and when Wayne played for that United team, he personified that dislike. Plus, why does the MLS need to be the league where former stars go to get paid to retire?

Happy Independence Day! But sadly, lot’s of injuries from fireworks in DC, including severe burns. A reminder to stay safe. (Washington Post)

Your Washington Valor Arena Football team is 1-10 on the season, with one home game remaining on Saturday, July 7th vs. the Baltimore Brigade. On the plus side, since there are only four teams in the AFL this season, the Valor will make the playoffs! And in a new format will play two playoff games in a home/away series! (Tickets)

Finally, the Nationals are in a bit of tailspin in recent weeks, but come out and get yourself a Bryce Harper bobblehead on July 6th! (Bobblehead)
