Whoa, three nights of The xx in DC!
The London indie poppers The xx are coming to the 9:30 Club and the people of DC are stoked!
How can we be sure? They have sold out all three shows! That’s impressive.
Their third album and first in over five years, I See You, came out in 2017, and it’s still in the electronic, dreamy realm of their first two albums, yet more ‘triumphant and celebratory’ according to Jamie Smith (beats, production). The band also includes Romy Madley Croft (vocals, guitar) and Oliver Sim (bass, vocals).
I See You does feel like ‘more’. More electronic sound, more sampling, more upbeat. “Dangerous” and “A Violent Noise” capture that aesthetic best. Even slower songs like “Performance” and “Brave For You” lift up the veil of more, as otherworldly journeys of ethereal melodies and effortless vocals.
Still, I recall fondly their heyday in 2009-2010 when “Islands” and “VCR” were on heavy rotation. But my favorite track from their first self-titled album was the spare “Intro”, for me it’s a brilliant initiation to The xx.
Tickets are Sold Out for all three shows. You can always get tickets on the resale sites. And you should. Prices are ranging $80 and up.
Doors open at the 9:30 Club at 7:00pm; except on Friday, 7/27 which is at 8:00pm. No opener listed.
