How about a weekend in DC with Asian food, art demonstrations and live music?
Sign me up, especially for the street food market!
The Freer/Sackler Gallery is reopening (after renovations) with the IllumniAsia festival over two days. The festival is also presented by the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. It will include indoors activities and will also spill into the always beautiful Enid A. Haupt Garden.
Find the full schedule of music, art, demonstrations and performances here.
Some events and activities that look most promising to me include:
- Storytelling across Asia (10/15 @ 1:30pm, 3pm & 4pm) – classic tales from Iraq, India and the Himalayas.
- Street Food Market (both days; times vary)
- Savor Asia: Food Demo Tent (both days; times vary) – flavors of the Philippines and Bahrain
- Global Spice Lounge (both days; times vary) – smell, taste and touch spices used in Asian cuisine.
Okay, so the food is what I’m most interested in…but there is plenty more to do.
Free to the public. 10/14 – 5pm-12am; 10/15 – 11am-5pm.
