SAVOR, “an American craft beer & food experience” is tonight at its new location, The Anthem, on the DC Wharf. Doors open at 6 p.m. for Premium tickets and at 7 p.m. for General Admission tickets.
This is the biggest SAVOR ever with more than 230 beers! That’s a lot of beers to choose from. Don’t worry, below are breweries and beers we’re excited about and a SAVOR cheat sheet with all the information you’ll need to find and taste your favorite styles.
Of the 230+ beers at SAVOR, six have Untappd (a widely used crowdsourcing beer rating app available for iPhones and Android phones) in the rare territory of higher than 4.40. Another 10 have elite ratings higher than 4.25. In total, there are 50 beers that are listed as very good with a rating of 4.00 or higher. There are also 19 that are too new to have an Untappd rating. Many of them sound unique and delicious.
Side Project
Missouri-based Side Project is renowned for their excellent beers and they aren’t disappointing with two of the top three rated beers. Leading the way is their Oude Fernier Vintage 2019 (4.69) which is a saison aged in Sauvignon Blanc barrels. Side Project proclaims it “the best of our best.” The other beer Side Project will have at Savor is the Anabasis #5 (4.58), a bourbon barrel-aged American Barleywine. It was aged in Blanton and Weller 12-year barrels and then blended. Undoubtedly both of these will run out quickly, so be sure to get them early in the night.
The Bruery
The second highest-rated beer at SAVOR 2022 is The Bruery’s Portified Black Tuesday (4.58) stout. To create this beer, they put their standard Black Tuesday beer in port pipes and then sweetened it with fresh Syrah grapes.
Jackie O’s
If you haven’t had beer from this Athens, OH brewery, be sure to visit them tonight. Jackie O’s makes fantastic beers in general and especially barrel-aged stouts. I can’t wait to taste their bourbon barrel-aged stout, Temple of Minerva (4.48) tonight.
Fremont
SAVOR regular, Fremont Brewing from Seattle is once again bringing on of their outstanding barrel-aged beers. Ye Olde Centaur (4.45) is a barrel-aged barleywine that is sure to be another treat from the Pacific Northwest.
Other Beers Not to Miss:
-Odd Breed Wild Oddities and Outliers Blend II – wild ale (4.42)
-Perennial Vanilla Abraxas – barrel-aged stout (4.37)
-The Lost Abbey Peach Afternoon – sour ale (4.36)
-Drekker Narfle the Garthok – pastry stout (4.28)
-Wild East Ordered States of Nature: Kriek 2021 – Belgian sour ale (4.24)
-Missing Mountain Phan F’n Tasm – hazy double IPA (4.18) *top-rated IPA
