If you haven’t yet been to Rhizome in Takoma, the perfect opportunity has arrived!
Itasca will be playing an early show at Rhizome on November 16th, supporting her new album, Spring, just released on November 1st (via Paradise of Bachelors).
Itasca is Kayla Cohen, a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. The name comes from a combination of an Ojibwe place and the Latin words for truth and head. She may not be easily defined musically, but her songs seem rooted in folk traditions.
The songs from Spring was the culmination of time she spent in rural New Mexico, and the songs speaks to the landscape and history she discovered while hiking around the Four Springs area.
Her “Only a Traveler” video is ‘influenced heavily by the opening sequence in Heart of Glass, the film by Werner Herzog.’ The lyrics drift over a contemplative, melancholy mood of escapism. Another single from Spring, “Bess’s Dance”, is a beautiful folk song, delving into the connections to Nature, as she was inspired by when crafting the album.
Should be an entertaining show, so get your tickets here.
Tickets are $10. Show at Rhizone starts at 4pm. Opener is Marian McLaughlin.
