Alex Lahey returns to DC supporting her second album, The Best of Luck Club (via Dead Oceans).
She’ll be performing at U Street Music Hall on August 22nd. We witnessed her show at DC9 in 2017, and can confirm it was a splendid affair.
Alex is from Melbourne, Australia and excels at giving us indie rock defined by the minute details and everyday interactions of life. I especially enjoy her knack for clear song titles that are also simple metaphors for life. She wrote the new album in Nashville, using the unpretentious nature of the dive bars she explored as a muse.
“Don’t Be so Hard on Yourself” is an anthemic ode to life not always working out, but really, take it easy on yourself and slow down. Things will get better!
“I Don’t Get Invited to Parties Anymore” is about becoming an adult and putting other priorities at the fore (like her profession), and is a damn good guitar-driven track to boot.
Highly recommend you give Alex a chance this time around!

Tickets are $15. Doors open at U Street Music Hall at 7pm. Opener is Kingsbury.
