Emily Haines finally returns to DC!
Emily Haines’ newest solo effort, Choir of the Mind, was released in September, yet is her first solo album in 10 years. Often using the moniker Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton for her solo efforts, she is also the lead singer of Metric and contributes vocals to the massive Canadian band Broken Social Scene. (Though, sadly, we missed her during Broken Social Scene‘s recent 9:30 Club performances.)
I have not yet attended a live solo performance by Emily, but witnessed Metric three times, most recently in 2013 at the Rams Head Live in Baltimore.
New songs like “Fatal Gift” build on an overarching theme of the album, as described by Emily, ‘the idea of femininity as a free-standing life force’. “Planets” is introspective and quiet, with minimal lyrics, simply lush, melancholy instrumentation. Another recurring theme from the 60 minutes worth of new songs.
Now is your time to witness Emily without Metric!
