One’s from Australia; the other Philly. They teamed up for a collaborative album, and they’re bringing their tour to DC this Tuesday!

Kurt Vile and Courtney Barnett have been making music on their own and with other bands for the past decade, each gaining recognition and fame on their own terms.

Barnett released The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas in 2013, and then her album, Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, in 2015, for which she was won a number of awards (and was nominated for even more).

Vile got his start in 2008, helping to form The War on Drugs and releasing their debut, Wagonwheel Blues, while releasing his own solo album, Constant Hitmaker.

They recently teamed up on a collaborative album, Lotta Sea Lice, released October 13. Together, they make for a laconic, relaxed sound that fits snugly around Vile’s voice and Barnett’s delivery.

Song’s like “Over Everything” and “Continental Breakfast” sound like private conversations between two songwriters, two friends, that we listeners are being let in on. There are thematically heavier songs to the album, but there’s a lightness shot through the collection. There are laughs, these are friends, and they have let a wall down to let us in. The collaboration album isn’t exactly common, but Courtney and Kurt make it feel absolutely natural.

Get your tickets here.

Tickets are $46 for GA, $76 for Super Excellent Seats. Doors open at 6:30pm. Opener is Jen Cloher.
