The War on Drugs continues the otherworldly October run of bands/artists to kick-off The Anthem’s opening.
Their fourth indie rock album, A Deeper Understanding, came out in August to impressive critical acclaim.
From Philadelphia, the band is expansive and keyboard heavy; Adam Granduciel (vocals, guitar), Robbie Bennett (keyboard), Charlie Hall (drums), Joe Natchez (saxophone, keyboard), Anthony LaMarca (guitar) and David Hartley (bass).
Songs from the new album like “Holding On” and “Pain” grab you and could be throwbacks to the apex of synth-pop of four decades ago, and maybe because it’s top of mind, often bring me back to listening to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
The album is excellent, and the show should be just as amazing.
Buy your tickets here.
Tickets are $41 (but sold out for Super Excellent Seats). Doors open at The Anthem at 6:30pm. Show 8pm. The Building is the opener.
