Last year we highlighted One Way Out’s killer single “Red”, and now they have added a new video to compliment the track in advance of their upcoming tour, making a stop at DC9.
As we said last year, ‘One Way Out’s powerful new blues song speaks to such weighty themes as isolation, uncertainty and self-isolation.” It was written in the early days of the pandemic. Now, the new video reflects the confusion of the time, depicting the band staying home in a claustrophobic room, descending into madness as the video progresses. The video was shot, edited, and produced by longtime collaborator Carter Louthian.
The band also found inspiration for “Red” in the film The Shawshank Redemption. Guitarist Jake Schaefer recalls, ‘A scene that really stuck out was when Andy Dufresne starts blasting opera for the whole prison. They were locked up and we were locked down, but music was giving us hope to get through it.’
We need hope. Now more then ever. Music, you are our only hope. Our only way out.
One Way Out is about to kick off a 9-show Music and Euphoria Summer Tour in Connecticut, and will be playing many of the songs from their latest album (The Sun, The Moon, The Truth).
They will grace DC by performing at DC9 on June 4th.
The DC-based One Way Out formed in 2012, and has five current members; Josh Gaba (lead vocals), Jake Schaefer (guitar), Giulio Iacoviello (bass), Geist Topping (drums), and Ari Rubenstein (keyboard). As a band they blend multiple musical styles, including blues, psychedelic and hard rock, with a smidgen of punk.
