Head over to the 9:30 Club early on Sunday, November 17th and catch the alternative rockers Slothrust!
Slothrust is opening for Highly Suspect, on the strength of their fourth album, The Pact (via Dangerbird Records). The garage rock trio hales from Boston and is Leah Wellbaum (vocals, guitars), Will Gorin (drums) and Kyle Bann (bass).
They have also recently released a double A-side with their friends, Sons Of An Illustrious Father. The bands covered each others’ songs for a split 7 inch and proceeds will benefit The Trevor Project, who focus on suicide prevention within the LGBTQIA+ community.
The Pact feels introspective overall, with layers of melancholy sounds flowing towards a dam, and you wonder when it may break and they fully let loose.
“Walk Away” is a spoken poem about not loving yourself enough to leave someone. “The Haunting” is a strong acoustic ballad, the slow beats moving languidly around Leah’s story of lost love, almost haunting in its intimacy. “Peach” picks it up a bit, sneaking in fun beats and funky lyrics that hint at something from Primus, only a lot more earnest.
Tickets are Sold Out. (Check for tickets on your favorite resale site!)
Tickets were $40. Doors open at 9:30 Club at 7pm. Slothrust at 8pm. Headliner is Highly Suspect (9:15pm).
