It’s lily time!
How long have you lived in DC (or nearby)? Be honest, how many times have you made it over to Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens?
If you’re like me, not that many times, which is not enough given how pleasant and beautiful it is for a stroll.
Most people I’ve asked have never been there. Please work on correcting that, as it’s a gem in the middle of the city.
Every year the Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens hosts the Lotus and Water Lily Festival, to celebrate the flowers in full bloom. This year, head over on July 13 and 14th. Aside from the remarkable beauty of the water lilies in all their vibrant colors, you can find games, arts and crafts, and other performances or advocacy opportunities.
Check out the full list of activities for the two-day festival here.
Fun Fact: Kenilworth Park & Aquatic Gardens is part of Anacostia Park, which is part of the overall National Capital Parks system, which in turn is one of the 419 units managed by the National Park Service (NPS). Not quite one of our 61 National Parks, but certainly worthy of your visitation consideration!
