Come out to Songbyrd in Adams Morgan on Friday, August 11th and give Gordi, an indie pop songstress from Australia, a listen.
Gordi, or Sophie Payten, releases her debut album, Reservoir, on August 25th from the label Jagjaguwar. You can preorder here.
Of the songs I listened to, “On My Side” is an upbeat plea to ignore what she says in the heat of the moment and stay on her side anyway. “Heaven I Know” is a slower ballet about trying hard in a relationship but still failing.
Her voice is very distinct and powerful. I want to say a full-throated and sonorous sound, but my thesaurus may not be working today.
Should be an entertaining show at the intimate Songbyrd.
