What concerts will you see over the next two months?

There are tons of exciting bands and artists coming to DC in March and April. What’s your plan? Use this as a blueprint for discovering your own strategy to the thorny problem of ascertaining just how many concerts is too many in a month. Let me know the answer. I’ll add a few more details to April’s concerts later.

As always, find local music in yellow. Use some of your concert going capital to see local music at DC’s small venues. You’ll be helping those businesses and artists, and too much live music is not a thing.

Glixen w/ Suzy Clue + she’s green @ DC9 (3/17/25) (Glixen just released their second EP, Quite Pleasures (via AWAL), and according to member Aislinn Ritchie, ‘Quiet Pleasures explores change, desire, devotion, sensuality and lovingness. We used layers of fuzzed-out and gritty guitars to introduce a darker, more intense iteration of Glixen while still capturing the fluttery charm of shoegaze.‘ Meanwhile, shoegazers from Minneapolis she’s green, just signed with Photo Finish Records and released a serenely shimmering single called “Graze”. Alliteration is merely a bonus.)

Sarah and the Sundays @ Howard Theatre (3/20/25) (Sarah and the Sundays, indie rockers from Austin, Texas, come to DC on the strength of their third album, Like A Damn Dog. The album wrestles with a world filled with chaos, allowing us listeners to navigate modern life defiantly and through shared experiences. Their name comes from practicing on Sundays, but since The Sundays already exist, they added the name of Miles Reynolds’ (keyboard/guitar) sister to the band’s name.)

Stereophonics @ Lincoln Theatre (3/28/25) (Stereophonics will release their 13th(!) album in April, Make ’em Laugh, Make ’em Cry, Make ’em Wait (via EMI). Vocalist Kelly Jones describes their first single, ‘“There’s Always Gonna Be Something” is a song that could be describing the restlessness in uncertainty, struggling to arrive at acceptance. A part within all of us.’ The Wales band started in 1992 and will tour for the first time in three years, so don’t miss them this time!)

Deep Dive Live @ The Atlantis (3/29/25) (With local bands Spring Silver, Breezy Supreme and Massie. These Deep Dive shows are only $10, why would you miss it? Test your limits!)

Beth Gibbons @ The Anthem (3/30/25) (Beth Gibbons is the lead singer of Portishead, and she’s touring for her third solo album, Lives Outgrown.)

Immersion & SUSS @ Pie Shop (3/31/25) (Immersion is an electronic duo with Colin Newman (from Wire) and Malka Spigel (from Minimal Contact). They’ve partnered with the ambient country trio SUSS to release the third album in a series called Nanocluster. Vol. 3 is available now and both bands will be at the Pie Shop to perform their melting pot of ideas. The first two singles are “State of Motion” and “In the Far Away”.)

The Weather Station @ The Atlantis (4/5/25) (Tamara Lindeman is The Weather Station. She just released a new album, Humanhood (via Fat Possum), which has been described as a record of ‘intense details; piano notes disintegrating into static, fiddle materializing out of a cloud of cymbals.’ Indeed. Sounds promising!)

The Tallest Man on Earth @ Strathmore Music Center (4/8/25)

Annabel Lee (opening for Transviolet) @ The Atlantis (4/8/25) (Los Angeles rocker Annabel Lee slams us with her rough and tumble debut album, Mother’s Hammer, with a smidge of pop polish on the edges. She’s opening for the pop/rock band Transviolet, from San Diego.)

He adds, “It’s very special to me because I’m very proud of where I come from, and I feel like Hawaii has something really special to offer the world — but until now, you’ve had to live here to understand it… I feel like it’s my kuleana — my job — to share that with the world.

The Ivy w/ Lyncs + Glosser @ Pie Shop (4/15/25) (Glosser is a great local band, check them out. Synth-poppers The Ivy are from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and are fun live. I witnessed them at DC9 a couple years ago. They have three EPs and one album so far, 2024’s A Door Still Open, and have collaborated with Lyncs (also performing) on a new single called, “Don’t Fall Asleep to This”. It showcases their collective synth-pop acumen and is an ‘ode to the challenges and hopes of long-distance relationships.’)

Jill Sobule (opening for The Fixx) @ The Barns (Wolf Trap) (4/15/25)

Nightly @ 9:30 Club (4/18/25) (They are great live, check out our review of one of their previous DC shows.)

Sharon has changed her approach, and has now included her backing band (when she toured as a solo artist) in the creative process, ‘For the first time in my life I asked the band if we could just jam. Words that have never come out of my mouth – ever! But I loved all the sounds we were getting. I was curious – what would happen? In an hour we wrote two songs that ended up becoming “I Can’t Imagine” and “Southern Life”.’)

Taylor Bickett @ Pie Shop (4/30/25) (Taylor is a singer/songwriter from Indiana, now based in Nashville. Her latest single “The Crime” is about a traumatic event and the female experience.
