What concerts are you ready for to close out 2024?
2024 has been a good year for live music. Lots of excellent shows came through DC, with a few more to go. A ton of local bands/artists made moves and great music. All of it keeping us locals entertained throughout the changing seasons and moods. I will post an end-of-year wrap-up once the dust of this year settles, but until then, let’s celebrate with a more live shows!
We might be a bit distracted from music at the moment with all that is happening in the world, and our (waaaay too long) election cycle, but these are the times we need music more than ever. Never let the world distract you from the small things you love. If that is music, don’t stop supporting live musicians and venues.
As always, find local music in yellow. Use some of your concert going capital to see local music at DC’s small venues. You’ll be helping those businesses and artists, and too much live music is not a thing.

November 2024
Sixpence None the Richer w/ Dawn Landes @ The Birchmere (11/3/24) (You know you’re singing “Kiss Me” in your head right now! Also, check out our previous review of Dawn Landes at the original Songbyrd location.)

Misterwives w/ joan @ Rams Head Live (11/3/24) (We’ve reviewed live performances of both bands, and they both put on great shows. See the Misterwives review and the joan review.)
The Go! Team w/ La Sécurité @ Black Cat (11/3/24) (La Sécurité exudes elements of punk, new wave and krautrock, driving us along a fiercely off-kilter, yet melodic, road that will most definitely culminate into a dance-lovers dream show. They are based in Montreal, and these are the shows designed perfectly for all the Saturday Black Cat dance denizens. You’ll continue your journey with The Go! Team, and you’re ass won’t stop shaking. Do it.)
Dumb Lucky w/ Massie + Color Rot + Flo Petite @ DC9 (11/3/24) (Saw Massie perform a tight set in the sun at Snallygaster, and think if you missed them at the beer festival, correct that by getting four local bands for the price of one at DC9!)
Melt @ 9:30 Club (11/7/24)
Bailey Spinn @ Songbyrd Music House (11/8/24)
Blitzen Trapper w/ Molly Parden @ Black Cat (11/9/24) (Looks like Lousia Stancioff has been replaced by Molly Parden. Just witnessed Lousia Stancioff at the Pie Shop with her fellow indie folk singer/songwriters for a joint show. A full set by Lousia would be a welcome start to this show.)

Savanna Leigh (Opening for Ashley Kutcher) @ The Atlantis (11/10/24) (Pop singer/songwriter Savanna Leigh comes to The Atlantis on the strength of her fourth EP titled reminders of you, about peeling back the layers of outgrowing certain relationships and addressing past versions of yourself. Savanna describes the EP, “The songs are full of hidden meanings and the storytelling was the main focus for me when writing this project. I wanted the production to feel very Florida, driving with the windows down, summer air, and beach vibes, but with a melancholy undertone. It is a heavy project but in the best way.” Savanna is based in Nashville, but grew up in Florida.)
Becca Stevens @ Pearl Street Warehouse (11/10/24)

Echosmith @ Howard Theatre (11/11/24) (Check out our review of a previous show and a short interview.)
Ratboys & Palehound @ The Atlantis (11/11 & 11/12/24) 1st Night Sold Out
Fresh AIR Concert @ Strathmore Music Center (11/13/24) (Strathmore’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program is in its 20th year, which helps six artists from the DMV area transition into the professional music world. The six in the Class of 2025 are: Gabby Cameron (banjo), Jack Gruber (piano), Hasan Imam Hamdani (guitar), Maximilian Jacobs (violin), Marcel Penzes (trombone), and Qi Yu (guzheng). This year’s class will mark the first time they perform together in the 1,800 seat Music Center.)
Tokyo Police Club w/ Born Buffians @ Howard Theatre (11/14/24) (Tokyo Police Club (TPC) is signing off as a band, and this will be their final tour, hitting over 30 cities, before culminating in four shows in Toronto, Canada on November 26-29. The Howard Theatre show is your last chance to witness them live in DC. They started in 2006 in Toronto and over their nearly 20-year career have amassed four albums, and a number of compilation, remix, and live albums. They just released a final pair of singles “Just A Scratch” and “Catch Me If You Can”. I’ve witnessed TPC live seven times so far, and it will be bittersweet to see the eighth, but the show will also be a celebration of their career. Even though they will no longer release new music or tour, DC will always have 2010’s Red Bull Sound Clash pitting Tokyo Police Club vs. Wale. TPC won that clash, and now hopefully they win everyone’s admiration as they close out a strong career. Also, Born Ruffians kick ass.)
NBS w/ Alizeh + KNR Co. @ The Pocket (11/14/24)
Keep Your Secrets w/ Arms Like Roses + Pagoda Peak @ Quarry House Tavern (11/14/24)

KINDA EVIL w/ Cherub Tree + Cal Rifkin @ Black Cat (11/15/24) (This is KINDA EVIL’s debut record release show! Their album, Hard to Believe, just dropped on Oct. 24th for you to buy via Bandcamp. I’ve listened to their newest banger, “Honeybears”, and look forward to hearing the entire album before the show.)

Brian K & The Parkway w/ Jack The Radio + Wandering Bird @ Pie Shop (11/15/24) (Local band Brian K & The Parkway are touring in support of their debut album, Killing the Bear, released in March. If you like your music with guitar-based roots rock, with a dash of soul, get yourself to the Pie Shop on Nov. 15th!)
Vienna Teng @ The Hamilton Live (11/16/24)
Hush Club w/ M Andy + Sean Custer @ The Pocket (11/16/24)
Grief Cat @ DC Comedy Loft (11/17/24)
slowdive @ The Anthem (11/17/24)

Lo Moon @ The Atlantis (11/23/24) (LA’s indie rock Lo Moon returns to DC with the catchy sounds of their third album, I Wish You Way More Than Luck (via Thirty Tigers), on full display. I’ve seen them live twice now, once in 2022 at DC9 and once as the opener for CHVRCHES in 2018, and highly recommend giving them a listen!)
Carol Ades w/ Sabrina Song @ DC9 (11/23/24)
Outerloop w/ Ari Vox + Chyna + Lud Roes @ Pie Shop (11/30/24) (Girls Rock DC show, a Camper Cover Benefit Show at Pie Shop. Tickets aren’t on the venues website yet, but click the link to find them.)

Mindy Smith @ Jammin Java (11/30/24) (Mindy’s new album, Quiet Town, explores the discovery of her Blue Ridge/Appalachian Mountain-based birth family. It speaks to overcoming adversity, and a journey of strength, peace, and self-love. This is her sixth album, but first since 2012. Her songs have appeared in multiple TV shows and a Super Bowl ad. Plus many artists have covered her songs over the years, like Lee Ann Womack (“All His Saints”), Faith Hill (“Come to Jesus”), and Alison Krauss (“If I Didn’t Know Any Better”). If you love your folk pop imbued with country elements, this will be the show for you!)
December 2024

Laura Tsaggaris @ Miracle Theatre (12/1/24) (This is Laura’s fourth annual holiday concert at the Miracle Theatre. She’s based in DC (Capitol Hill), and is also doing the holiday show at Jammin Java on Dec. 14th and at Ram’s Head On Stage (Annapolis, MD) on Dec. 7th. The ‘Get in the Mood’ Tour features songs from the critically acclaimed 2021 Christmas album, Get in the Mood. Laura and her band, The Mood Ring, put classic rock, acoustic, and funky spins on Christmas classics like Elvis’ “Blue Christmas”, Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You”, and “Christmas Time Is Here” from A Charlie Brown Christmas.)

The Big Show Tour will feature TMBG spotlighting one album while mixing in other favorites, new and old.
