What concerts are you ready for in October?
October has the same vibes as September, with lots of great shows coming to DC! Give this curated list a quick perusal, and choose some (or all?) concerts of the artists or DC venues you may enjoy.
Last month I attempted to witness 10 concerts (to break my all-time record for a month), but due to a couple of obstacles, I failed! (I got selected to a lengthy trial during Jury Duty and had an unexpected work trip.) Since I’m a glutton for punishment, let’s try that again! Goal: Attend 10 (or more) concerts in October.
(Editor’s Note: Just back from a long trip, so this is more of a draft. Didn’t have time to add too much sweet blurbage yet.)
As always, find local music in yellow. Use some of your concert going capital to see local music at DC’s small venues. You’ll be helping those businesses and artists, and too much live music is not a thing.

Divine Sweater @ DC9 (10/5/24) (Divine Sweater released their newest album, A Time For Everything (via Better Company Records), an upbeat collection of excellent indie pop songs that speaks to. despite the sound, mortality and loss. With a viral video for ‘Deep Side”, they have received a great deal of acclaim recently, including the sparkling six degrees of Kevin Bacon. Lead singer Meghan Kelleher reflects, “Over the past couple of years, our whole band really did a lot of wrestling with mortality. We’ve lost a lot of our loved ones, and attended a lot of funerals. Death is just this other chapter in life. It’s just inevitable.” Originally from Boston, they recently relocated to Brooklyn. Meghan continues, “We just uprooted and totally changed everything. I feel like I really reset my life and am a different person now than I was before.” Good if you like Haim, Alvvays and Angel Olsen.)

Her single, “7 Minutes in Hell”, showcases her vision for a solo career, a cinematic sound with a blend of dark pop and rock. As Chrissy explains, “’7 Minutes in Hell’ explores the unsettling reality of how someone else’s Heaven can be your personal Hell. For years, I was bound by others’ expectations, always questioning why I was drawn to what they deemed ‘wrong.’ This song is the awakening after falling from grace, realizing that what they called Hell might actually be my freedom.”)

Currently opening for The Front Bottoms, they have also toured with the likes of Silversun Pickups and beabadoobee in recent years. Since forming in 2016 in Queensland, Australia, they have also amassed three EPs. Eliza Klatt describes the process of creating their new album, “It was interesting to see how working in a different part of the world, outside of the comfort of our home studio and Australia in general, has influenced our writing and the process of demoing the songs. Recording the album with Oscar Dawson was an incredibly collaborative experience. He continued to push us out of our comfort zones which led us to feeling really free creatively. I think this also made us write in our most honest and genuine form.” Check out our preview and short interview.)
