What concerts will you partake in over the next two months?

Both July and August felt a little light with shows by themselves, so I’ve combined the next two months into one epic To Do list. Lots of good outdoor concerts, and Fort Reno will be buzzing all throughout July. Good luck if you want to try all 30+ concerts, but also have fun!

Find local bands in yellow. Go see local music at DC’s small venues. You’ll be helping those businesses and artists, and you can never have enough music in your life.

July 2024

Of Montreal @ 9:30 Club (7/1/24) (of Montreal is touring for their new album, Lady on the Cusp (via Polyvinyl Record Co.), which ‘combines a keen reckoning with the past with hopeful glimpses of the future, all clad in Barnes’ purposefully scattershot pop kaleidoscopes.’)

The Greeting Committee @ 9:30 Club (7/12/24) (The indie rock band from Kansas City, The Greeting Committee comes to DC to promote their new album, Everyone’s Gone and I Know I’m The Cause. The band went through some line-up changes and refocused their creative direction to bring a fresh sound to the new record. Nico Vega w/MIHI NIHIL + Finish Ticket @ The Atlantis (7/30/24) (LA indie rockers, Nico Vega, return with the first new music since 2018, with the single “$5”. They’ll make an appearance at Lollapalooza, and have a forthcoming new album, Make It Out Alive. Another treat, MIHI NIHIL (Mee-Kee Nee-Keel) will open. From LA, this alt-rock band formed in 2020, and released their first album in 2021. Individually, the members have been around the music scene for years, having toured with Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Jane’s Addiction, fronting shows at festivals like Coachella and Warped Tour, and backing up artists like Neil Young, John Denver and Bruce Springsteen. Their new single, “MOTH”, comes out on July 23rd! After an early listen, it pretty much kicks ass, harkening back to the fiery sounds of early Heart.)

WHY? @ The Atlantis (8/20/24) (WHY? headlines for their new album, The Well I Fell Into (via Waterlines), and are still going strong after 20 years as a band. They are an indie rock band, with elements of hip hop, founded by Yoni Wolf, who used the moniker as a solo rapper before forming the band. Yoni also created the new label Waterlines to continue his approach to having an artist-run collective, and to include many collaborators in the recordings. As Yoni describes, “On this album, I’m very interested in classic songwriting. I want my songs to be able to be played unadorned by just one person and still hold up. Any production frills should only serve to elevate the song further without being relied upon to tell the story.”)

Tedeschi Trucks Band w/ Margo Price @ Merriweather Post Pavilion (8/21/24) (Tedeschi Trucks Band is heading back to the DC area, still touring for 2022’s I Am the Moon, their fifth album. They already came to DC and performed three dates at Warner Theatre this year, but now they are taking advantage of the outdoors with the great Margo Price opening.)

A Shrewdness of Apes w/ Outerloop + Peak Bloom + Lud Roes @ Songbyrd Music House (8/22/24) (Stellar lineup, undefeated, so get your ass to this show! Also, ASOA has a crowdfunding campaign to help fund studio time and a tour this fall. Get some merch and help them create and perform music! Also, my broken record plea is to support local bands!)
