What concerts will you witness in March?

Cherry blossom peak bloom is predicted for March 23-26, but peak music is every single day! Lots of great music coming in March, start planning. Here are a few recommendations to flex your peak live music muscles.

DC’s local music awards, Wammie Music Awards, recently announced their 2024 finalists, and you have a chance to witness a few of those artists/bands perform this month.

Please remember Cat Janice, a local music fixture in DC, who passed away from cancer on February 28th. She is still being honored as a Wammie 2024 finalist for Best Pop Artist-Group.

As always, find local bands in yellow. Don’t delay, get out there and see local music at DC’s small venues. You’ll be helping those businesses and artists, and you can never have enough music in your life. I highlighted in bold when an artist/band is nominated for a Wammie.

Top 20 Concerts for March

Two Door Cinema Club @ The Anthem (3/1/24) Sold Out

Maddie Zahm @ 9:30 Club (3/3/24) (This is Maddie’s first headlining tour in support of her debut album, Now That I’ve Been Honest (via AWAL). Her songs recount her intense religious upbringing, coming out as bisexual, and untangling from the church, along with her nuanced journey with weight loss and the messiness of coming of age.)

Porno For Pyros w/ Tigercub @ The Fillmore Silver Spring (3/3/24) (Porno For Pyros originally called this a reunion tour, but now it is called their ‘Farewell’ tour, so this could be your last chance! Go early and check out Tigercub as well, who just released a remix of their song “Show Me My Maker” by Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard. As per Gossard, “I feel lucky as shit that Tigercub allowed me the chance to remix this track. How many different ways is this song cool?  The lyric, the groove, the heavy ass bass…it screams!“)

The Beaches @ The Howard Theatre (3/4/24) Sold Out

The Snuts w/ Flowerbomb @ The Atlantis (3/4/24) (Local legends, Wammie 2024 finalist, and previous winner, Flowerbomb makes their debut at The Atlantis. All the cool kids are doing The Atlantis.)

Cold War Kids @ 9:30 Club (3/5 & 3/6/24) Both Sold Out

Tedeschi Trucks Band @ Warner Theater (3/5, 3/6 & 3/7/24) (This Grammy-winning blues rock jam band starts with three nights in New York, then descends on DC for three nights. Their tour runs through October, and includes another local stop at Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 21st. Four chances, don’t miss out!)

Ira Wolf w/ Griefcat + Devon @ The Pocket (3/9/24) (DC pop duo Griefcat embraces the silliness of their songs, inspiring a welcome sense of humor, one that I will liken to The Flight of the Conchords – if you don’t get that reference, please correct that immediately. Devon is also from DC. Ira Wolf travels around in a camper van to gift audiences with her melodic voice.)

Sleater-Kinney (Photo Credit: Chris Hornbecker)

Sleater-Kinney w/ Black Belt Eagle Scout @ The Anthem (3/12/24) (Sleater-Kinney’s new album, Little Rope (via Loma Vista) was released in January, and now that you’ve listened to it many, many times, it’s time to catch them live! They formed in the 1990’s in Olympia, WA and are currently Carrie Brownstein (also of Portlandia fame) and Corin Tucker. Long-time member Janet Weiss exited in 2019. They went on a hiatus in 2006, but have been releasing new material since 2014, including four albums in the last 10 years.)

Silversun Pickups @ 9:30 Club (3/14/24) Sold Out (Should be another great show by Silversun Pickups, I’ve already witnessed them live six times, and I’ll keep on going! They actually have two shows in DC, they will return to the 9:30 Club on May 6th, where tickets are still available.)

Outerloop w/Dorinda + Fishlord + Cecil and Deliliah @ Songbyrd Music House (3/14/24) (Outerloop is a Wammie 2024 finalist for Best Punk Song.)

Loving (Photo Credit: Glyn Manwaring-Jones)

Loving @ DC9 (3/19/24) (Canadian folk duo, Loving, is taking their second album, Any Light (via Last Gang Records/MNRK), for a North American headlining tour, before heading off to Europe to tour with Alice Phoebe Lou. Jesse Henderson and David Parry met on a tree-planting job in Canada, and embrace a ‘process of free-flowing experimentation’ in their music. Also, DC9 is 20 years old, so go celebrate constantly with them until you drop.)

A Shrewdness of Apes w/ Careless Flight + Panda God @ Jammin Java (3/20/24) (A Shrewdness of Apes is a Wammie 2024 finalist for Best Hard Rock/Metal Artist-Group.)

Psymon Spine @ Pie Shop (3/21/24) (Brooklyn’s Psymon Spine are bringing their funky psychedelic pop sounds to DC, touring for their new album, Head Body Connector (via Northern Spy Records), which was released about a week ago. This is their third album which ’embraces abstract pop as a vessel in which to explore time and change.’ Get some pies at the Pie Shop and enjoy some Spine!)

The Armed @ Black Cat (3/25/24)

Grouplove (Photo Credit: Brantley Gutierrez)

Grouplove w/ Bully @ 9:30 Club (3/26 & 3/27/24) (Grouplove returns to DC for two shows! Last here in 2017, they are touring for their 2023 album, I Want It All Right Now (via Glassnote Records). Also, Bully is awesome, don’t miss this one.)

Elephant Stone + Evolfo + One Way Out @ Comet Ping Pong (3/27/24) (Montreal psych rockers Elephant Stone are touring in support of their new album, Back Into the Dream (via Sacred Sounds). Also, DC rock band, One Way Out, is a good way to start this show.)

Black Masala @ Pearl Street Warehouse (3/29/24) (Check out a review we did of one of their previous shows. They also play at New Deal Cafe on March 9th. They are a Wammie 2024 finalist for Best World/Global Artist-Group.)

Brian K & The Parkway w/ Karen Jonas + Cat Popper @ Jammin Java (3/29/24) (This is an album release show for Brian K & The Parkway. They are joined by Cat Popper – of Puss N Boots fame with Norah Jones and Sasha Dobson – and Virginia’s favorite country/Americana singer, Karen Jonas. Karen is also a Wammie 2024 finalist and has won multiple Wammies in the past.)

Deep Dive Live (showcasing Jeff Draco + Cinema Hearts + Rock Creek Kings) @ The Atlantis (3/30/24) (Deep Dive Live will be a new, recurring event at The Atlantis showcasing emerging local and regional talent on the rise. Your chance to go to the first one. Also Cinema Hearts is a Wammie 2024 finalist for Best Rock Album.)
