Do This: Snallygaster 2023 (10/14/23)

2023 marks the eleventh year of Snallygaster. What have we learned?

Simply that it is the best beer festival in DC, hands down.

There are around 170 breweries scheduled to lovingly pour their wares this year. The only question is, how much beer drinking is enough in a single day? To each their own, but there is a high probability that Snallygaster will teach you this lesson.

You will be able to find 14 breweries from Virginia (the most from any state), four from Maryland, and six from DC (Atlas, Lost Generation, DC Brau, Right Proper, Bluejacket, and Soul Mega). Also, Washington State is bringing five breweries.

Here’s the full list of the all the 424 beers so you can plan your experience!

(Coming!) Find Jeff Lucas’ spreadsheet break-down of all the beers we recommend, along with the Untappd rating.

Last year’s Snallygaster saw just over 400 beers, with more than 100 of those beers with an Untappd rating of 4.25 or better. (A helpful tool to direct you to good beers.) (See last year’s list.)

A few of the standout beers from last year included, Timber Ales’ Barrel Aged Lumberjack Style 2022 (Black Wax), Floodlands’ Collins Family, RAR’s Out of Order series, and smoothie sour beers from Juicy. Timber and Floodlands will be returning for the 2023 edition.

Why this beer festival? It is the best beer festival in DC. The Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG) brings to life the excellent beer programs at Bluejacket, Churchkey and The Sovereign. NRG puts a lot of effort into curating the Snally beer list, including many rare options, also known as ‘whales’ in beer industry parlance.

It is held along Pennsylvania Ave NW (between 3rd and 7th) and you pay a flat fee, with all you can drink beer samples included. Food costs extra.

Snallygaster is also the annual fundraiser for Arcadia, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the DC area. Help others, while you drink beer. Our motto.

Get your tickets before it’s too late on the Snally website.
