Which concerts are you attending in July?

It is July. Welcome to the heat and the bad air quality. Are you not entertained? If you are lacking in the entertainment department, check out this list of concerts you will most certainly enjoy!

Also, the Fort Reno Concert Series kicks off this month. Lots of good local music can be enjoyed in the great outdoors! (Provided the air quality clears up for these shows.)

Note: As a general rule, we won’t post the first 44 concerts coming to the new The Atlantis on this list because the tickets have all been distributed. Even though they deserve to be on the list, it’s too late.

Note: If you want some local DC-based bands/artists, we’ve highlighted local artists in yellow.

Top 20 Concerts for July

Barenaked Ladies w/ Five for Fighting + Del Amitri @ The Anthem (7/5/23) (Wow, I haven’t seen the Barenaked Ladies live since the late 1990’s. And I was into Del Amitri’s greatest hits album for awhile in the same era. The Barenaked Ladies also perform at The Atlantis on July 2nd.)

The Head and the Heart and The Revivalists @ Merriweather Post Pavilion (7/8/23)

Staycation Night Two: Flowerbomb w/ Dear Spring, Venray, etc. @ Pie Shop (7/8/23) (Night two of a little local festival that Pie Shop is putting on. Get tickets to both nights, or if you can only do one, I recommend the second night with Flowerbomb.

Overcoats @ Millennium Stage (Kennedy Center) (7/8/23) (Free show!)

Pinkhouse & Grady w/ Pretty Bitter @ Pie Shop (7/9/23)

Arts Fishing Club @ Jammin Java (7/12/23) (The energetic pop singer, Christopher Kessenich calls Arts Fishing Club his ‘semi-solo project’, and they just released the album, Rothko Sky.)

Garbage + Metric @ Merriweather Post Pavilion (7/13/23) (I’m extremely bitter to be out of town for this show! Don’t miss it. Both opening for Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.)

girlgenius: Devon Williams, Veronica Faison, meg dot jpeg, Velvet Grace @ The Pocket (7/13/23)

First Aid Kit w/ The Weather Station @ The Anthem (7/14/23)

Activity @ Pie Shop (7/14/23)

The Struts @ 9:30 Club (7/16/23)

Attic Sessions w/ Dorinda + Nesmith. & The Argonauts @ Jammin Java (7/19/23) (Taisha Estrada of the DC rock band Outerloop ALSO performs with the jazz and neo-soul band known as Attic Sessions. Give them a listen.)

Nanna (from Of Monsters and Men) @ The Howard Theatre (7/20/23) (Nanna just released a solo album in April, How To Start A Garden.)

Marian Hunter @ Union Stage (7/20/23) (Marian is from Virginia.)

Jenny Lewis w/ Cass McCombs + Hayden Pedigo @ The Anthem (7/22/23) (Jenny Lewis just released her fifth album in June, Joy’All (via Blue Note/Capitol Records). And she performs at The Atlantis the night before. Also, check out our review of a previous Cass McCombs headlining show.)

Blondshell @ DC9 (7/22/23) Sold Out (DC9 should be a cool venue for pop sensation Blondshell. She opened for Suki Waterhouse earlier this year in DC, and she will return with Liz Phair later this year. Lots of chances to witness Sabrina Teitelbaum (aka Blondshell) in DC in 2023, and no excuses!)

Blood Red Shoes w/ Grady @ Pie Shop (7/23/23)

Fort Reno Concert Series: KINDA EVIL w/ Old Knife + Dot Dash @ Fort Reno (7/24/23) (Lots of Fort Reno shows, highlighting this one for fun! You cannot go wrong, whichever evening you choose.)

Horsegirl @ DC9 (7/25/23) (This post-punk band from Chicago just released their debut album, Versions of Modern Performance (via Matador).)

My Morning Jacket @ The Anthem (7/29/23)

Bonus!

(Is 20 ever enough? Never.)

Lauren Calve @ Lubber Run Amphitheater (7/1/23) (Free concert! Bluegrass and country artist Lauren Calve, from Virginia, will release her first album, Shift, in September.)

Counting Crows w/ Dashboard Confessional @ Merriweather Post Pavilion (7/12/23) (Bring on the nostalgia!)

Hurray for the Riff Raff @ Millennium Stage (Kennedy Center) (7/20/23) (Free concert! The Millennium Stage has a good number of well-known artists doing the free shows that start at 6pm.)

Santana @ MGM National Harbor (7/26/23)

Grimm Winter w/ You Fool! + Fake Radio @ The Pocket (7/28/23) (End the month with a bang, with this local indie and post-punk showcase!)
